This is my tribute to Gary Valenciano, who's celebrating his 25th anniversary in show business this year :)
I just needed to find an appropriate time to upload this video, which I kept in my cabinet for about a decade already. I found and copied it while I was video researching for an artist group's concert. Sabi ko, ang cute nito, Gary was so young pa :) I thought of dubbing a copy to preserve it, kasi baka sa future masira na yung original tape, sayang ito, pang-mark ng milestone niya as a performer :) Uy serious daw, as if archivist ako ng mga artists hehehe
Gary V. guested at Student Canteen to promote his first single (under Blackgold Records), Hang On. If I'm not mistaken, this was in 1983.
Note yung entrance niya after he was introduced by Eddie Ilarde haha. At parang 2 lang ang studio cameras :) Aliw ano. Just to note, my VHS copy's audio was so bad but I was able to lay a new audio track for this. Salamat po doctor! hehe

What could be more nostalgic than going back to your high school to reunite with your schoolmates and teachers?
January 5, 2008. My high school class ("batch" as we would say it) celebrated its Silver Jubilee. We hosted the Grand Alumni Homecoming with a sumptuous dinner buffet, roast calf, lots of wine, coffee, and chismis :) Of course, being the showbiz Paulinians that we are, we welcomed the night with a lot of Magic...
We were freshmen back in 1980 when our senior sisters performed this number. I first saw it onstage in our Little Theatre. Aliw, galing naman. It introduced me to Pippin, to Broadway, and all those musicals from where we got our Songfest pieces. Magic to Do for me was the ultimate "pampagana". So when we were planning our Homecoming, I can't help suggesting this for our Opening number. It's not as explosive and show-stopping as other Broadway openings, but it has this simple, magnetic, hypnotic feel and appeal.
Ehh...kaso di ko yata na-block ng maayos ang sarili ko kasi na-"block" ako ng iba sa video hehe. Sumisilip-silip lang ang byuti ko sa ibang frames. I wore a pink vintage dress owned by my mommy back in the early 70s. Here is the only photo I have, thanks to my batchmate Gigi Valencia-Lim :)
This 1982 footage was taped from "Patok na Patok", a variety show on PTV-4 hosted by Ariel Ureta. UP Zoological Society members guested on the show to promote a fundraising activity, the premiere of the movie, "The Earthling." (Back in the 80's, student dance groups can actually guest on TV shows to plug their events.) My sister, Ate MaryRose was part of the UPZS dance group that's why we really HAD to tape it at home then using our top-loading, humongous Sony Betamax! [applause]
That's Tet Yuvienco, Helen Sabas, Mary Rose Alcaneses, Edwin Lagera, Danny Dimalanta and Rene Francia (mga kagalang-galang na doktor na po ngayon!). Actually, there's another segment of the show where they took part in the games. I'll post it some other time :)
Hope they don't kill me for uploading this for the whole world to see, hehe. Hey, it's rare, archival, genuine [gee-nu-wayn] 80's video :) 25 years old. Silver Jubilarian.
My apologies to the owner of the original picture (or whoever uploaded it in one of the 80's retro site). Nasobrahan ang 80's fever ko because of our May 18 party-- had to find out how my family would look like if we had THE BIG HAIR :)
That's Jed (in stripes), me (with glasses), and Addy (little girl in red).
